 Williamsport - Mayor's Biography

After serving on Williamsport City Council for 12 years, the citizens of Williamsport elected Dr. Gabriel J. Campana as mayor. Since he took office in January 2008, Mayor Campana has pledged to decrease crime and enhance economic development.

Like his father before him, Mayor Campana and his 10 siblings were born and raised in Williamsport. His deceased father Dr. Louis Campana was a physician and his mother, Rose Campana, is a retired nurse.

Prior to his present post, Mayor Campana was a fifth grade school teacher for almost 20 years at Stevens Elementary School in Williamsport. In addition, he taught master’s degree classes at the College of New Jersey and served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Gratz College.

He completed the Doctorate of Education (curriculum and instruction) at the Sarasota campus of the University of Sarasota (now known as Argosy University). In addition, the Mayor completed multicultural coursework at Harvard University, received a Master’s of Science in Education, Magna Cum Laude from Wilkes University and a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education, Magna Cum Laude from Bloomsburg University. Mayor Campana received honor distinction upon completion of classes in the summer of 1980 from Saint Alban's Prep School in Washington, D.C.  He is also a graduate of Bishop Neumann High School and the class of 1981. Campana  completed post doctorate classes in adminstration at Temple University

Mayor Campana is a member of the Newberry Lions, Lycoming County Historical Society, Sons of Italy, Mater Dolorosa Church, and the National Rifle Association. He received the 2005 YWCA Racial Justice Award and was recognized in the 2005-2006 Who’s Who in American Education and the 2005 – 2006 Who’s Who Among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs.

Still living on the same block he grew up on, Mayor Campana resides with his wife, Sonia, and four daughters  & now a new baby boy--Gabriel Louis Campana
