Early in February Google, Inc. announced that it is seeking communities to participate in the development of a fiber optic Internet delivery system, which they believe will deliver Internet services up to 100 times faster than those that currently exist in the world.
The potential economic development benefits of such a system to Williamsport and the surrounding area are numerous and would benefit schools, colleges and universities, the banking industry, other growing industries (the gas industry for example), to name a few.
On February 18, 2010, Williamsport City Council passed a resolution supporting an effort led by City Council's Economic Revitalization Committee and Mayor Campana, and composed of elected leaders and community supporters, to submit an application to Google, Inc to develop their project in Williamsport and the surrounding region.
Because of the quick deadline, (March 26), we would appreciate if your organization could respond with an indication of support for this project at your earliest convenience. An example letter is enclosed. Also, it would be useful if your letter were submitted on your organization's letterhead as a further demonstration of broad community support.
Thank you for your interest and support.
Letters should be sent to:
